I was fortunate that my grandfather had quite a collection of information about his Japp ancestors including a family tree going back to the 1600s. This was compiled by James William Japp, ex Provost of Montrose in May 1898. (The provost was the head of the council and figurehead for the whole town.)
This tree is on a sheet of A0 paper so doesn’t reproduce very well. Some of the lettering is faded and it is smudged in places. Here’s the whole sheet and close ups of it divided into four images.
My 3 x Great Grandfather, Francis Japp, was a cabinet maker in Montrose, Scotland. The business was taken on by his brother John’s sons Francis and John.
I have a Davenport writing desk that was made by them.
